Price increase for imports and domestic production

Prices increased for imported goods and goods produced in Norway. The Price index of first-hand domestic sales increased by 0.5 per cent from January to February. Prices increased in all groups except for crude materials.

Food prices increased by 0,5 per cent, influenced by the increase in prices of imported fruit and vegetables. Prices on beverages increased by 0.2 per cent. Compared to January 2006 prices of chemical products increased by 0.6 per cent in February. For nonferrous metals, prices increased by 8.8 per cent last month. The import of aluminium products influences this group.

Electricity prices increased again and are still on a high level. Fuel prices decreased by 0.5 per cent. Prices on machinery and transport equipment increased by 0.4 per cent. Prices on office machines, data processing machines increased by 1.2 per cent from January to February, while road machines went down 0.1 per cent.

The prices related to the domestic production increased by 0.5 per cent compared to January. There are price increases in all groupings except for manufactured goods. Food prices increased by 0.4 per cent. Prices on energy goods and chemical products both went up 0.5 per cent.

The 12-month rate, February 2005 to February 2006: up 6.6 per cent

Prices on energy goods remain the main contributors to the increase this period with large price increases the last twelve months. Electricity prices and prices of petroleum products, increased by 48.2 and 37.3 per cent respectively. Prices on nonferrous metals are also higher than in February 2005. Aluminium prices increased by 43 per cent.

The twelve-month rate for the prices related to the domestic production increased by 9.8 per cent compared to February 2005. This is due to the increase in electricity prices and prices on petroleum products.
