Expensive electricity brought prices up
Price index of first-hand domestic sales increased by 0.9 per cent from February to March. Prices increased for both imported goods and goods produced in Norway. High prices on electricity were the main reason for the increase in prices.
Electricity prices went up by 12.5 per cent, while other energy goods dropped slightly on the domestic market. Prices on machinery and transport equipment decreased by 0,3 per cent. Office machines and computers decreased the most.
Food prices decreased by 0.3 per cent the last month. This reflects a decrease in fish prices on the Norwegian market, in addition fruits and vegetable and cereal prices decreased.
Prices on crude materials increased. Both prices on pulp and waste paper and prices on metalliferous ores and metal scrap increased. The price increase related to metalliferous ores is in particular related to nickel prices. These prices increased by 7.8 per cent the last month according to figures from Financial Times (LME).
Prices of the domestic production increased by 1.4 per cent. Prices on food and in particular fish prices decreased while electricity prices jump 12.7 per cent from February to March.
The 12-month rate, March 2005 to March 2006: up 6.3 per cent
Prices on energy goods remain the main contributors to the increase this period with large price increases the last twelve months. Electricity prices increased by 54.2 per cent. Non-ferrous metals also increased significantly with 42.6 per cent.
The twelve-month rate for the prices related to the domestic production increased by 9.5 per cent compared to March 2005. This is due to the increase in electricity and food prices.
