Higher prices on mineral fuels
The Price Index of First-hand Domestic Transactions increased by 0.6 per cent from June to July. Higher prices on mineral fuels pushed the index up. From July 1998 to July 1999 the prices increased by 1.7 percent after a 1.3 per cent increase in June.
The prices on mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials increased by four percent from June to July. Higher prices on crude oil (Brent Blend) and refined products like e.g. gasoline and heating oil contribute heavily to the steep changes within the group. As an average the July-price for Brent Blend ended up above 20 dollar per barrel - more than 20 per cent up from last month.
While increases in crude oil and petroleum products pushed the index up, a drop in food prices worked in the opposite direction. The drop in the food price index - mainly on meat from pigs, some fish products and imported fruit - was somewhat dampened by higher prices on domestic produced vegetables
