Higher prices on potatoes and fish

The PIF had a weak increase from May to June. The price rise mainly emanated from higher prices on new potatoes that pulled the index for food upwards. Lower prices on electricity dampened the total rise in the overall index from May to June.

The PIF rose by 0.1 per cent from May to June. Food prices increased 1.6 per cent. Norwegian new potatoes entered the market in June, causing higher prices within the product group fruits and vegetables. Prices on fish increased 2.4 per cent in the same period, while a price reduction on meat dampened the total rise in the food prices. Chemicals also had a price rise from May to June.

Electricity prices fell by 17 per cent from May to June. Consequently, the commodity group 'mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials' saw a decrease of 1.6 per cent despite a 2.2 per cent rise in the prices of petroleum and petroleum products. During the last twelve month period, June 2014 to June 2015, prices on energy products pulled the total index down.

Prices on imported goods increased from May to June, while prices on goods produced and sold in the Norwegian market fell during the same period.
