The total index falls by 1.2 per cent

The large decrease in the total index for April is mainly due to a decline in the price of crude oil, but there was also a fall in manufacturing prices. The 12-month rate for the total index fell from 8.4 to 6.2 per cent.

According to the London Spot Markets, the average price of Brent Blend fell by 16.9 per cent from March to April (measured in NOK). This decline came after OPECs decision not to continue their self-imposed production restrictions. The average price for April was NOK 193.60. This caused the prices in the group oil extraction mining and quarrying to decrease by 8.0 per cent from March to April. The 12-month rate went down from 51.1 to 30.3 per cent.

Decreasing manufacturing prices

For the first time since June last year, there was a decline in manufacturing prices. The group manufacture of chemicals and chemical petroleum, coal, rubber and plastic products showed the largest change, with a 1.9 per cent decline. The group manufacture of paper and paper products, printing and publishing also contributed, with a decline of 0.9 per cent. The largest contribution came through export prices.

The prices of food, beverages and tobacco pulled in the opposite direction, increasing by 0.4 per cent in April. For the other groups there were only minor changes.

All in all manufacturing prices fell by 0.3 per cent, causing the 12-month rate to go down from 5.1 to 4.3 per cent.
