Record high total index
The total index for the sea and coastal water transport industry equals 124.9 points in the third quarter of 2007, a record high level. Both ocean transport and domestic freight transport experienced growth in prices the same period.
The total index for the sea and coastal water transport industry is at 124.9 points, 18 per cent higher than the same quarter in 2006.
Growth in prices ocean transport and domestic freight transport
The price index in the third quarter in ocean transport is 125.5 points, an increase by 18 per cent compared with the same quarter in 2006, and a growth of 5.3 points compared with the previous quarter. However, there are big differences within the industry. While freight of dry bulk increased by 70 per cent compared to third quarter 2006, the index on freight of crude oil and oil products fell by 21 per cent. The price index on freight of other dry cargo went down by two percent compared with the same quarter in 2006.
The index on domestic freight transport was 126.2 points in the third quarter, an increase by 14 per cent compared with the same period last year. This shows a significant increase in the domestic freight rates. Since the first quarter this year, the index has risen by 14.9 points.
Slight increase in inland transport in costal waters
The scheduled long distance inland transport in coastal waters industry experienced a small increase of prices compared with the previous quarter. The index for the third quarter is 3.2 points above the average of 2006.
The solid growth in prices for the tugs and supply vessel industry has declined. The industry index has decreased by 5.5 points compared with the previous quarter, but is still 19 per cent above its value of the third quarter of 2006.
