Continued price fall in telecommunications
Prices for telecommunication services decreased by 0.6 per cent from the third to the fourth quarter of 2007. This means that the trend with lower prices in the industry continues. The decrease in the last quarter was a result of lower prices in the private market.
Prices of mobile telephone services in the private market were the main contributor to the decrease. Prices of fixed telephony services and Internet services have also decreased in this market.
This is the first time a published price index for telecommunication services includes the business market. Telecommunication services for the private market have previously been published on a monthly basis as part of the consumer price index. Figure for the first quarter of 2008 will be published together with the second quarter figures in August.
Price increase in the business market
Prices in the business market rose by 1.6 per cent from the third to the fourth quarter of 2007, caused by higher prices for fixed telephony and mobile telephone services. Prior to this the prices had been relatively stable since the fourth quarter of 2005 except from a decline of 5.4 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2005 to the first quarter of 2006.
