Lower prices for mobile phone services for businesses

Business clients in the telecommunication industry experienced a price fall on services from the second to the third quarter of 2008. The prices for private households were stable.

Price index, telecommunication services. 2006=100

The prices for business clients were reduced by 1.6 per cent during the last quarter, mainly due to lower prices on mobile phone services and internet services. In comparison, the prices were reduced by 0.5 per cent from the second to the third quarter last year.

In total, the price decrease for business clients and private households was 2.4 per cent from the third quarter of 2007 to the third quarter of 2008.

About the industry

According to preliminary figures from Statistics Norway’s structural statistics, the telecommunication industry consisted of 727 enterprises with a total turnover of more than NOK 63.8 billion in 2007. The industry is characterised by a few large enterprises.

Prices in the statistics

The price information is for fixed telephony, mobile telephone and Internet services.

New standard industrial classification

The statistics for the first quarter of 2009 will be published according to the new standard industrial classification (NACE rev.2). In the new standard, the industry consists of wired telecommunications, wireless telecommunications, satellite telecommunications and other telecommunications activities.
