Lower prices on telecommunication services
Private households paid 7.3 per cent less for telecommunication services in the fourth quarter of 2008 than in the quarter before. By comparison, business clients paid 1.0 per cent more for the services in the last quarter.
Prices of mobile phone services were the reason for both the price fall for private households and the rise in prices for the business market.
In total, the price decrease for business clients and private households was 5.9 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2007 to the fourth quarter of 2008.

About the industryAccording to preliminary figures from Statistics Norway’s structural statistics, the telecommunication industry consisted of 727 enterprises with a total turnover of more than NOK 63.8 billion in 2007. The industry is characterised by a few large enterprises. Prices in the statisticsThe price information is for fixed telephony, mobile telephone and Internet services. New publishing routinesThe statistics for the first quarter of 2009 will be published together with another price index in the information and communication industries, and it will be published according to the new standard industrial classification (NACE rev.2). In the new standard, the telecommunication industry consists of wired telecommunications, wireless telecommunications, satellite telecommunications and other telecommunication activities.
