Higher transport prices

The price index for sea transport increased by 2.7 per cent between the 4th quarter of 2009 and the 1st quarter of 2010. The index for freight transport by road rose by 0.3 per cent in the same time span.

Price indices for industries within transport and storage. 2006=100

The price index for storage and warehousing increased by 1.5 per cent during the same period and measures 117.0 (2006 prices as base price).

Modest growth for freight transport by road

Within freight transport by road, the transport prices for frozen or refrigerated goods, which declined by 0.4 per cent, is the only sub index that has shown a decline from the 4th quarter of 2009 to the 1st quarter of 2010. For the rest of the sub indices, a price rise of between 0.4 and 1.0 per cent was registered. The aggregate index for freight transport by road, measuring 117.7 for the 1st quarter of 2010, is 0.2 per cent lower compared to the same quarter in 2009.

Increase in prices within freight ocean transport

The index for ocean transport with goods rose 2.0 per cent compared to the 4th quarter of 2009. The increase is mainly due to an increase in prices within ocean transport of dry bulk and ocean transport of crude oil and oil products.

The aggregate index for sea transport declined by 3.2 per cent in comparison to the same quarter in 2009.

Increases in storage prices

The increase in storage prices is due to an increase in the associated sub indices; prices for frozen and cold storage grew the least by 0.2 per cent, while general storage and other storage grew by 1.9 and 2.2 per cent respectively between the 4th quarter of 2009 and the 1st quarter of 2010. The index remained unaltered in relation to the same quarter last year.
