Upward trend continues

The price indices for freight transport by road and storage and warehousing increased by 2.2 and 2.7 per cent respectively between the 3rd quarter of 2012 and the 3rd quarter of 2013. The price indices for passenger air transport and cargo handling, on the other hand, declined during the last year.

The total index for freight transport by road was at 109.6; an increase of 2.2 per cent compared to the 3rd quarter of 2012. The sub-index for petroleum products increased the most during the period, by 7.1 per cent, followed by transport of mixed goods/container goods, which increased by 3.7 per cent.

Passenger air transport declines

The total index for passenger air transport has declined by 7.2 per cent since the 3rd quarter of 2012. The decline was 15 per cent compared to the 2nd quarter of 2013.

Business travel and leisure travel; the two components that in combination make up the total index for passenger air transport, had different trends. Business travel declined by 15.4 per cent, while leisure travel had an upward trend, with an increase of 3.2 per cent during the last year.

Higher prices for storage and warehousing

Prices for storage and warehousing increased by 2.7 per cent between the 3rd quarter of 2012 and the 3rd quarter of 2013. The index remained unchanged compared to the preceding quarter.

Declining prices for cargo handling

The price index for cargo handling fell by 0.5 per cent from the 3rd quarter of 2012 to the 3rd quarter of 2013.
