Airfares still falling

Prices in air passenger transport fell by more than 12 per cent in the last year, and by 2 per cent from the previous quarter.

The price index for air passenger transport ended at 90.6 in the 1st quarter of 2014, which is about the same as in the first quarter in 2012. During this two-year period, the index peaked in the 2nd quarter of 2013.

Continued growth in freight transport by road

The total index for road freight transport went up 2.4 per cent from the 1st quarter of 2013 to the 1st quarter of 2014. The sub index for transport of petroleum products saw the largest increase, with 6.2 per cent, while the sub index for frozen and refrigerated goods increased marginally by 0.2 per cent.

Rising prices for storage and warehousing, but cargo handling declines

Since the 1st quarter of 2013, the index for storage and warehousing increased by 1.9 per cent. The total index was up 0.6 per cent during the 4th quarter of 2013 relative to the 1st quarter of 2014.

Cargo handling declined by 0.6 per cent compared to the same quarter in the previous year. The index is at about the same level as the preceding quarter.

Postal and courier services

The index for postal and courier services increased by 0.9 per cent during the 1st quarter of 2014 compared to the same quarter in 2013.
