Moderate rise in manufacturing prices
From March to April manufacturing prices rose 0.3 per cent. The greatest upward pull came from a 2.2 increase in prices of refined oil products. The 12-month rate (April 2000 - April 2001) was 3.8 per cent.
Prices of food products, beverages and tobacco went up 1.0 per cent, while chemicals and chemical products showed a 0.9 per cent increase. The largest damper on the rise in manufacturing prices came from basic metals, where prices went down 1.4 per cent. Another decline worth mentioning was the 1.9 reduction in prices of pulp, paper and paper products.
In addition to the mentioned rise in manufacturing prices, a 3.8 per cent rise in oil and gas extraction made the total index go up by 2.2 per cent.
Among the main industrial groupings energy goods went up 3.5 per cent, while consumer goods, in total, rose 0.8 per cent.
