The growth has stagnated

The growth in number of staff in the municipal child welfare service has stagnated. A total of 2 861 man-years was registered in the municipal child welfare service at the end of 2004. This is 18 more than the year before and an increase of 0.6 per cent. The increase from 2002 to 2003 was 2.0 per cent, and from 2002 to 2003 3.1 per cent

The number of staff relative to the number of children under 18 in 2004 is the same as the last three years, that is 2.6 man-years per 1 000 children. A key trend is that more and more of those employed have professional training.

Residential child care workers and social workers now comprise 43 and 35 per cent, respectively, of all employees in the municipal child welfare service. At the end of 2004 81 positions remained unfilled in the municipal child welfare service that is approximately the same as at the end of 2003.
