Increase in number of staff

The number of staff in the municipal child welfare service increased last year. A total of 2 933 man-years was registered in the municipal child welfare service at the end of 2005. This is 2.5 per cent more than the year before.

From 2003 to 2004 the increase was 0.6 per cent, and one year earlier, from 2002 to 2003, it was 2.0 per cent. The number of staff relative to the number of children under 18 was last year 2.7 man-years per 1 000 children compare to 2.6 in 2003 and 2004 A key trend is that more and more of those employed have professional training.

Residential childcare workers and social workers increased by 24 and 28 man-years in 2005. The group of staff with other college/university educations also increased by 28 man-years last year. These three groups of skilled workers now count 88 per cent of the staff in the municipal child welfare service, compared to 83 per cent in 1995. 88 positions remained unfilled in the municipal child welfare service at the end of 2005, compared to 81 at the end of 2004.
