More residential childcare workers

A total of 3 184 man-years was registered in the municipal child welfare service at the end of 2007. The number of man-years increased by 144 or 4.7 per cent from 2006. From 2005 to 2006, the increase was 3.6 per cent.

The number of staff relative to the number of children below 18 years was 2.9 man-years per 1 000, children compared to 2.8 in 2006. A key trend is that more among those employed have professional training.

The increases in the number of residential childcare workers and social workers in 2007 corresponded to 120 and six man-years, respectively. The number of man-years by employees with other higher education increased by 5. Together, these three groups of professionals now add up to 89 per cent of the staff in the municipal child welfare service. 105 positions were vacant in the municipal child welfare service at the end of 2007, compared to 96 at the end of 2006.
