3.5 per cent more man-years in the Child Welfare Service

A total of 3 294 man-years was registered in the municipal child welfare service at the end of 2008. This is 111, or 3.5 per cent, more than in 2007. The number of vacant jobs has not been higher since year 2000.

The number of staff relative to the number of children below 18 years was 3.0 man-years per 1 000 children. In 2007 the corresponding figure was 2.9. A key trend is that a larger part of those employed in the Child Welfare Service have professional training. Nine of ten employees are now skilled workers and have education above collage.

The number of residential childcare workers and employees with other higher education increased with 51 and 42 man-years respectively in 2008. The number of man-years by social workers was the same as in 2007. Together, these three groups of professionals now add up to 89 per cent of the staff in the municipal child welfare service.

127 positions were vacant in the municipal child welfare service at the end of 2008, compared to 105 at the end of 2007.
