Income and wealth statistics for households

People are classified into various groups by what characterizes the main income earner of the household to which they belong. This does not apply to 'People aged 18 years and older', 'People aged 18-24 years' and 'People aged 25-66 years': here all persons in these age groups are included.

Income from work is defined as the sum of wages and self-employment income, sickness benefits and parental benefit on birth received through the year by the main income earner of the household. G refers to the basic amount in the National Insurance Scheme.

Receivers of disability benefit

From 2015 and on, disability benefit is taxed after the same rules as income from work. Before 2015, this group was called 'Receivers of Disability pension', and disability pension was taxed as pension.

Single pensioners, receivers of the minimum state pension

Living alone and recipient of the minimum old-age pension or the minimum guaranteed disability benefit.

Single old-age pensioners, receivers of the minimum state pension

People in households where the main income earner is a receiver of old-age pension.

Long-term unemployed

People in households where the main income earner has been continuously unemployed for 6 months or more

Receivers of work assessment allowance

Before 2010, this includes people in households where the main income earner was registered with longstanding illness. Included are people in receipt of rehabilitation allowances, persons incapable of full employment but parttaking in labour market schemes, and others.

People on social assistance

People in households where the main income earner has received social assistance during the year

Long-time recievers of social assistance

Persons having recieved social assistance for at least 6 months of the year.

In 2016, the registered receiving period for some of the long term receivers of social assistance in Oslo were too short, which makes the numbers not directly comparable with the years before and after.

Single parents who has received transitional benefit. Transitional benefit is a benefit that can be received by single parents with children under the age of 8.

Persons in households where the main income earner is under debt settlement agreement (voluntary or compulsory) at the end of the year.

Share of persons with low income, EU-scale 50 per cent

Low-income threshold equal to 50 per cent of median equivalent income. Consumption units (EU-scale) have been calculated by giving the first adult in the household a value of 1.0, 0.5 for any additional adult (older than 16), and 0.3 for each child 0-16 years old.

Share of persons with low income (EU60) and low estimated net wealth

Shows the percentage of persons who are living in a low-income household, calculated by using the EU-scale and setting the low income threshold to 60 percent of the median after-tax income per consumption unit, and where the estimated net wealth per consumption unit (EU-scale) is less than 25 percent of the low-income threshold (EU 60).

Shows the percentage of persons living in a low-income household, calculated by using the EU-scale and setting the low income threshold to 60 percent of the median after-tax income per consumption unit, and where the size of gross financial capital per consumption unit (EU-scale) is less than 25 percent of the low-income threshold (EU 60).
