Three in ten enterprises use cloud computing

Almost 30 per cent of enterprises with at least ten employees buy cloud computing services. Most of them store files or use e-mail as a cloud computing service.

Almost half of the enterprises with at least 100 employees buy one or more cloud computing services, while 25 per cent of the enterprises with 10 to 19 employees do the same. A total of 66 and 63 per cent of all enterprises respectively store files or use e-mail as a cloud computing service. Fifty-four per cent host the enterprise’s database in the cloud.

Seven in ten enterprises do not buy any cloud computing services. Thirty-seven per cent of them say it is due to insufficient knowledge of cloud computing. A total of 24 and 23 per cent of enterprises respectively do not use the services because of the risk of a security breach and uncertainty about the location of the data. Twenty per cent report the high cost of buying cloud computing services as a reason.

High growth in web sales

In 2013, turnover from e-commerce sales was estimated at NOK 523 billion; almost 20 per cent of the total turnover in the industries in the survey. Fifty-four per cent of the turnover from e-commerce sales was generated from EDI sales, while the rest was from web sales. One third of the turnover from web sales was from private consumers, which rose by 34 per cent from 2012 to 2013. Web sales to other enterprises and public authorities increased by 17 per cent in the same period. Twenty-five per cent of all enterprises sold goods and services via a website in 2013, and the corresponding figure via EDI was 7 per cent.

Increased use of mobile broadband

In the first quarter of 2014, 93 per cent of the enterprises had a broadband connection. Use of mobile broadband in the enterprises increased from 53 per cent in 2013 to 75 per cent in 2014. Enterprises with mobile broadband as the only Internet connection rose from 3 to 8 per cent. Eighty-five per cent of all the enterprises had a fixed broadband connection in 2014.
