The increase in private broadband capacity continues

The average transmission capacity for fixed private broadband has increased from 31.5 to 33.3 Mbit/s since the previous quarter. At the same time, the median value has increased to 24.4 Mbit/s from 22.8 in the previous quarter. One year ago, the average transmission capacity was 26.7 Mbit/s and the median value was 18.9 Mbit/s.

The average transmission capacity for fixed business broadband has increased to 20.4 from 19.1 Mbit/s in the previous quarter. At the same time, the median value increased to 10.4 Mbit/s compared to 9.5 in the previous quarter.

Private broadband subscriptions with a capacity of more than 32 Mbit/s total 37 per cent. Among business broadband subscriptions, 14 per cent have this capacity.

Slow increase in penetration rates

In total, the calculated broadband penetration rate in the 3rd quarter of 2015 is 80.1 per cent, compared to 79.4 per cent in the pervious quarter. From the 4th quarter of 2014, household figures from 1 January 2014 are used. The general increase in population and households reduces the penetration rate for private broadband by 1.5 percentage points. Additionally, a new way of treating students has led to a further 1.5 pp reduction. Even unmarried students are now registered in households at the place they study.
