173 million gross tonnes in East Asia

In 2016, Norwegian ships made 4 465 port calls in East Asia. The gross tonnage of these port calls was 173 million. General cargo and other dry cargo vessels made up 1 788 port calls and 77 million in arrived gross tonnage, according to the statistics Arrivals of vessels at Norwegian and foreign ports.
The statistics has been discontinued.
Norwegian ships with a minimum of 1 000 gross tonnes made 70 200 port calls in non-Norwegian ports in 2016. Arrived gross tonnage was 1 461 million, which is 174 million more than in 2015. Ships in the Norwegian Ship Register (NOR) and in the Norwegian International Ship Register (NIS) made 26 588 port calls with an arrived gross tonnage of 635 million. Norwegian-controlled ships registered outside of Norway made 43 646 port calls with an arrived gross tonnage of 826 million.
Europe most important
In Europe (excluding Norway), 39 001 port calls were made, with 482 million of arrived gross tonnes made by Norwegian ships in 2016. Scandinavia and the Baltic (excluding Norway) saw 116 million of arrived gross tonnes, Northern Continental Europe had 142 million, UK and Ireland had 83 million, Southern Europe had 70 million and the remaining 71 million was distributed amongst the Iberian Atlantic, the Black Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean.
Most Norwegian ships registered abroad in Bahamas, Singapore and the Marshall Islands
In 2016, approximately half of the Norwegian-controlled ships registered outside of Norway were registered in the Bahamas, Singapore, Malta or the Marshall Islands. The Bahamas is the most widely used ship register, containing 170 Norwegian-controlled ships and a total of 2.8 million gross tonnes. The second most widely used ship register belongs to the Pacific island nation state of the Marshall Islands, containing 133 Norwegian-controlled ships and 5.3 million gross tonnes.
