More guest nights in January

Total guest nights increased by 1.8 per cent in January 2019 compared to the same month the year before. This is due to increased guest nights at hotels.

In accommodation statistics registered 1.7 million guest nights in January. Guest nights at accommodation establishments rose by 30 000 compared to January the year before. This increase is mainly due to more Norwegian guests, while guests from other countries somewhat declined.

More guest nights at hotels

In January there were almost 1.5 million guest nights at Norwegian hotels. Compared to January 2018, total guest nights rose by 2.1 per cent. Total Norwegian guest nights at hotels increased, while the foreign ones remained approximately the same.

Even more to Svalbard

The guest nights at Svalbard rose by 23 per cent in January this year, following an increasing trend of more guest nights at Svalbard, also outside of the regular tourist season in the summer months. The largest contributing factor to this increase is the rise in Norwegian guest nights at Svalbard.

Increase at camping sites

  • 94 000 guest nights in January 2019
  • 0.9 per cent increase since January 2018
  • Norwegian guest nights increased by 2.6 per cent
  • Foreign guest nights declined by 7.4  per cent

Decline at holiday dwellings

  • 153 000 guest nights in January 2019
  • Foreign guest nights are twice the Norwegian ones
  • Norwegian guest nights declined by 6.3  per cent
  • Foreign guest nights increased 1.5 per cent

More countries included in the statistics

The following countries were earlier included in “The rest of Europe”: Albania, Andorra, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Kosovo, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Romania, San Marino, Serbia and Vatican City State. The following countries were earlier included in “The rest of Asia”: United Arab Emirates, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Qatar, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.
