More guest nights in January

Guest nights increased by 9.3 per cent in January this year, compared to the same month the year before. All types of accommodation had more guest nights.

Recent figures from the accommodation statistics show that there were 1.9 million guest nights at commercial accommodation establishments in January 2020, an increase of 162 000. Two-thirds of this increase was due to more Norwegian guest nights.

Increase at hotels
During January there were 1.6 million guest nights at hotels in Norway. This is an increase of 8.9 per cent compared to last year’s January. Both Norwegian and foreign guest nights increased, by respectively 7.3 and 14 per cent.
Increase in foreign guest nights in Svalbard
Foreign guest nights rose sharply, 38 per cent, but a decline of guest nights from Norway gave an overall increase of 3.9 per cent in Svalbard.
More guest nights at holiday dwellings
The total number of guest nights at holiday dwellings and youth hostels rose by 11 per cent in January 2020.
- 188 000 guest nights in January 2020
- Norwegian guest nights increased by 13 per cent
- Foreign guest nights increased by 10 per cent
Increase at camping sites too
- 106 000 guest nights in January 2020
- 12 per cent increase since January 2019
- Norwegian guest nights increased by 17 per cent
- Foreign guest nights declined by 13 per cent
