More Norwegians at Oslo hotels

There was an increase in guest nights at hotels, camping sites and holiday dwellings in August this year compared to August 2018. The increases in Norwegian guest nights at hotels in Oslo were the main contributor to this increase.

The accommodation statistics show almost 5 million guest nights at accommodation establishments in Norway in August 2019. This is 5.2 per cent more than in August last year. Norwegian guest nights increased by 4.5 per cent, with foreign guest nights increasing by 6.4 per cent. The main contributor to this increase is more overnight stays from Germany, Netherlands and France.

Increased hotel stays in Oslo
Norwegian hotels had 3.1 million guest nights in August, a 5.6 per cent increase compared to August 2018. Norwegian and foreign guest nights increased, by 7.1 and 3.0 per cent respectively. Together with increased guest nights in Oslo by Norwegians, guests from USA, Germany and Spain had the largest share of foreign guest nights.

Unchanged price per room and higher total sales
The average price per room was 1 008 NOK in August this year, effectively unchanged from August 2018. Total sales were however 6.2 per cent higher. Revenue per available room remained on the same level nationally, despite regional differences. The counties Rogaland and Finnmark had the largest decreases, whereas Vestfold and Troms increased the most.

More foreign guest nights in camping sites
- 5.8 per cent more guest nights compared to August 2018
- Foreign guest nights increased by 14 per cent
- Norwegian guest nights remained unchanged
- Camper guest nights increased by 15 per cent
Increase at holiday dwellings
- Norwegian guest nights fell 4.2 per cent
- Foreign guest nights went up 5.3 per cent
