West of Norway on a rise

In June, there was a record at Norwegian accommodation establishments, compared to the year before. In a month with a lot of variance between regions, the west of Norway contributed most to the record.

The accommodation statistics registered almost 4.3 million guest nights in June. Norwegian guest nights at accommodation establishments increased by 1.7 per cent compared to June the year before, while foreign ones increased by 3.4 per cent. Guest nights from USA and Germany contributed most to the increase.

The west increased – Agder and Hedmark declined
The four counties in the west of Norway, Rogaland, Hordaland, Sogn og Fjordane, and Møre og Romsdal had a combined 115 000 more guest nights in June this year compared to June 2018. In Rogaland and Hordaland the increase was mainly due to more Norwegian guest nights, while in Sogn og Fjordane, there were the foreign ones. It was mainly guests from China, Sweden and Germany that contributed to this increase.
The counties Hedmark, Vest-Agder, and Aust-Agder had a combined decline of 41 000 guest nights.
Increase at hotels
During June, there were 2.7 million guest nights at Norwegian hotels, an increase of 4.5 per cent from last year. Both the foreign guest nights and the Norwegian increased. The counties Oslo, Rogaland, and Hordaland were the main contributors to this increase.

Decline at Svalbard
It has been a steady increase in guest nights at Svalbard in June in every year from 2013 until 2018. This year it was a decline in guest nights of 4.2 per cent compared to the previous June. Since 2013, there has not been registered fewer guest nights from Norway in June at Svalbard.

Decrease at holiday dwellings
- 246 000 guest nights in June 2019
- 1.7 per cent increase since June 2018
- Norwegian guest nights decreased by 2.1 per cent
- Foreign guest nights decreased by 1.4 per cent
Decrease at camping sites
- 1.3 million guest nights in June 2019
- 1.1 per cent decline since June 2018
- Norwegian guest nights decreased 3 per cent
- Foreign guest nights rose by 2.8 per cent
