Less vehicles were scrapped
In 2003 a total of 97 865 private cars or vans were scrapped in Norway. This is a decrease of 4 829 cars or 4.7 per cent from the previous year. Ford had the highest number of private cars scrapped, and Mercedez Benz had the highest average age when scrapped - 20.7 years.
The average age when scrapped was 18.0 years for private cars, and 15.5 years for vans. This is the highest average age for both private cars and vans since these statistics were first published in 1985.
The number of private cars scrapped decreased by 5.1 per cent from 2002. The corresponding increase for vans was 0.7 per cent.
Oldest in Sogn and Fjordane
Private cars in Sogn and Fjordane had the highest average age when scrapped, with 19.0 years. Oslo-registered cars had the lowest average age for both private cars and vans, with 17.2 and 14.3 years respectively.
Mercedes highest average age
Last year 14 560 Ford private cars were scrapped. This accounted for 15.9 per cent of all the private cars that were scrapped in that year. Mercedes Benz had the highest average age when scrapped, with 20.7 years. A total of 92.3 per cent of the scrapped Mercedes private cars were over 16 years old.
Among the vans Toyota was the most common make to scrap last year. Volvo had the highest average age when scrapped with 19.2 years.
