Increase in overnight stays

Norwegian camping sites had 367 000 overnight stays in September this year. This was 22 000 more overnight stays than in September 1999. Business from abroad increased 1.7 per cent, while the domestic market increased 7.8 per cent.

Compared with September last year, most of the largest foreign markets decreased. The exception was Denmark with an increase of 28 per cent. Sweden accounted for the biggest absolute decrease in overnight stays, 1 700, followed by The Netherlands with 1 000.

To date

Norwegian camping sites have recorded 6.76 million overnight stays so far this year. During the same period last year, there were 6.77 million overnight stays, a decline of 0.2 per cent. The foreign market was down 3.5 per cent, while the domestic market increased by a modest 1.3 per cent.

Reduced capacity

In September 2000, 518 camping sites were open with altogether 7 897 cabins/room. The corresponding figures for September 1999 were 518 camping sites and 7 995 cabins/rooms.
