Reduced taxi activity
The number of taxi trips fell by 4 per cent in the first quarter of 2010 compared to the same quarter a year earlier. A similar decline ranging from 1 to 7 per cent was also registered on the other indicators during the same period.
The industry earned revenues of NOK 1 827 million during the 1s t quarter this year, which is 2 per cent lower than the same period last year. Turnover per trip, on the other hand, increased by 2.2 per cent implying that the industry earned on average more per trip compared to the same quarter last year.
Reduced activity
The industry covered a total of 153 million kilometres during the first quarter of 2010, which is 1 per cent lower than the same quarter the previous year. Out of this, 93 million kilometres, which is 7 per cent less than the same period last year, was driven with passengers on board. Number of hours offered, on the other hand, increased by 1 per cent, while hours occupied declined by 7 per cent during the same period.
Despite the decline in hours in operation and kilometres driven with passengers, capacity utilisation remained fairly stable. Capacity utilisation measured as a share of kilometres driven with passengers to total kilometres driven, was 60.3 per cent. Capacity utilisation measured as a share of taxi hours on offer, however, was 43.2 per cent. In other words, an average taxi is occupied for 60.3 per cent of the distance covered or 43.2 per cent of the times it is in operation.
The taxi statistics are based on a nationwide survey carried out quarterly on the taxi business classified by code 49.320, Taxi Operation in SIC07. The survey covers over 90 per cent of the taxi population in the country. The data is then scaled up to population size using a factor. This factor is calculated based on data from the survey and VAT data reported to the Directorate of Taxes. |
