Better earnings for taxis
Total taxi earnings increased by 2 per cent in the first quarter of 2012 relative to the same quarter in 2011. The occupancy rate per kilometre was 2 per cent lower in the same period.
The industry covered a total of 8.4 million trips during the first quarter of 2012, and the total revenue for the industry amounted to 2.1 billion NOK. The average turnover per trip was 247 NOK.
Out of the 8.3 million hours offered in the first quarter of 2012, 3.4 million hours were utilised which amounts to an hourly capacity utilization of about 41 per cent.
The total distance coved during the first quarter of 2012 was 144.4 million kilometres, out of which 57 per cent was covered with passengers in the cab.
The taxi statistics is based on a nationwide survey carried out quarterly on the taxi business classified by code 49.320, Taxi Operation in SIC07. The survey covers over 90 per cent of the taxi population in the country. The data is then scaled up to population total based on VAT from the Directorate of Taxes. |
New estimation methodBeginning from the first quarter of 2012, Statistics Norway employs new method in predicting population totals for taxis. This can result in minor ruptures in the series. For more info, please refer to “About the statistics” from left hand side of this site. |
