Increased earnings for taxis

The 3rd quarter of 2011 saw an increase in taxi transport activity relative to the same quarter in 2011. Turnover and taxi trips increased by 4.6 and 2 per cent respectively during the period.

Taxi transport. Turnover and number of trips. 1st quarter 2007 - 3rd quarter 2011.

The industry earned revenue of NOK 1 841 million during the 3rd quarter of 2011 and carried out a total of 7.7 million taxi trips.

Increase in passenger kilometres

The industry covered a total distance of about 138 million kilometres; a 6.5 per cent increase in relation to the same quarter in 2010. Kilometres driven with passengers, which accounts for 56 per cent of the total kilometres driven, increased by 5.1 per cent during the same period. The average taxi trip with passengers was about 10 kilometres; 3 per cent higher than in the 3rd quarter of 2010.

Unaltered hourly occupancy rate

The number of hours occupied as a share of number of hours on offer amounted to 39 per cent, which is 5 per cent higher relative to the same quarter in 2010. Capacity utilisation measured as a share of passenger kilometres to total kilometres driven, however, remained unchanged at 60 per cent during the period.

The taxi statistics are based on a nationwide survey carried out quarterly on the taxi business classified by code 49.320, Taxi Operation in SIC07. The survey covers over 90 per cent of the taxi population in the country. The data is then scaled up to population size using a factor. This factor is calculated based on data from the survey and VAT data reported to the Directorate of Taxes.
