Taxi transport. Turnover and number of trips. 1st quarter 2007-3rd quarter 2012

The industry carried out a total of 7.6 million trips during the third quarter of 2012, against 7.7 million during the same period in 2011. The corresponding turnover was NOK 1.9 billion; a 4.5 per cent increase compared to the same quarter in 2011. The combined effect of lower number of trips and higher turnover is a turnover per trip of NOK 253; 7 per cent higher than the same quarter in 2011. The fact that the industry earns more for every trip than previous periods can be ascribed to the increase in taxi fares during the last year 1 .

Low capacity utilization

The total distance covered during the third quarter of 2012 amounted to 135 million kilometres, out of which 53 per cent was covered with passengers in the cab; a decline from 56 per cent during the third quarter of 2011.

Sixty-four per cent of the time taxis had on offer during the third quarter of 2012 was unutilised. Out of the 8.4 million hours offered in the second quarter of 2012, 3.1 million hours were utilised, which amounts to an hourly capacity utilisation of about 36 per cent.
