Travelling abroad most popular
The total number of holiday trips abroad was 3.2 million in 2006. This is the highest figure ever recorded and an increase of 41 per cent since 1999.
The results for Travel survey for 2004, 2005 and 2006 are revised. Revised figures are put in the Statbank and in the attached tables for each year. The articles are not revised.
In total, 2.8 million Norwegians aged between 16 and 79 went on 6.0 million holiday trips lasting at least four nights in 2006. This is a 2.4 per cent increase from the previous year.
Spain remained the most popular destination for Norwegians, with more than half a million holiday trips in 2006. Sweden was the second most popular country, followed by Denmark. .
Flying abroad
For Norwegians, flying is the most popular means of transport, when travelling abroad, with a share of 75 per cent.
Hotels
Regard holidays abroad, hotels were the most popular type of accommodation, whilst holidaymakers in Norway preferred to use their own holiday homes or other type of private accommodation.
