Swedish lorries transported a total of 4.0 million tonnes of goods to, from and inside Norway in 2010, compared with 3.1 million tonnes in 2009; an increase of 29 per cent. Polish lorries scoop every market share, and in 2010 were second largest among the foreign lorries to, from and in Norway, with 1.2 million tonnes. The Danish lost market shares, and transported 1.1 million tonnes less than in 2009.

Norwegian lorries carried almost 267 million tonnes of goods to, from and inside Norway in 2010; 3.6 per cent more than in 2009. The foreign road goods transports’ share accounted for only 3.1 per cent in 2010 of the all domestic and international freight transport as a whole. The year before, the proportion was 2.9 per cent.

Slight decrease in transport with foreign lorries

The total transport performance in connection with driving to, from and inside Norway with foreign and Norwegian lorries amounted to 26.2 billion tonne kilometres during 2010. The transport performance with the foreign lorries was 6.1 billion tonne kilometres. This was 4 percentage points less than in 2009. Norwegian lorries carried 16.3 billion tonne kilometres for driving in Norway and 3.4 billion tonne kilometres between Norway and abroad. This represented an increase of a total 6.8 per cent from 2009.

Increase in cross trade

The cross trade includes transportation of goods from one foreign country to another. The foreign lorries transported 14 per cent more goods to/from Norway and abroad than other lorries’ home countries from 2009 to 2010. Twenty-one per cent of goods carried between Norway and another country was cross trade, the same as in 2009.

Continued low cabotage

The cabotage, where the foreign lorries transport goods from one place in Norway to another, accounted for only 0.1 per cent of total domestic freight transport in 2010; the same as the previous year. Four per cent of the goods transported by foreign lorries was cabotage.
