Slight increase for hotels

Norwegian hotels recorded 2,006 million guest nights in August 2000, against 1,980 million in August last year. In terms of percentage, business increased one per cent. Compared with August 1999, the domestic market increased five per cent, and the foreign market decreased four per cent.

The major foreign market, Germany, decreased eleven per cent compared with August 1999. The Netherlands and USA, other major markets in August, increased by 21 and 7 per cent respectively.

Decline this year

The business has dropped two per cent so far in 2000. The foreign business has declined, and the domestic market has been about unchanged.

Higher capacity

Compared with August last year, the capacity of the Norwegian hotel industry has increased in terms of the number of hotels, beds and rooms.

Increased room prices and lodging revenues

The average room rate in August was NOK 667, compared with NOK 656 in August last year. The lodging revenue increased from 765 million Norwegian kroner in August 1999 to 791 million Norwegian kroner in August this year.
