Increase in March

Norwegian hotels recorded 1,50 million guest nights in March 2001, against 1,47 million in March last year. In terms of percentage, business increased two per cent. Compared with March 2000, the domestic market increased four per cent, and the foreign market decreased three per cent.

Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands and USA decreased, and Germany and Japan increased compared with March last year.

Higher capacity

Compared with March 2000, the capacity of the Norwegian hotel industry has increased in terms of the number of beds and rooms.

Increased room prices

The average room rate in March 2001 was NOK 709, compared with NOK 698 in corresponding month 2000. The lodging revenue increased from 646 million NOK in March 2000 to 675 million NOK in March 2001.
