2 per cent increase in May

Norwegian hotels recorded 1,06 million guest nights in May 2001, against 1,03 million in May last year. In terms of percentage, business increased two per cent. Compared with May 2000, the domestic market increased two per cent, and the foreign market increased three per cent.

The largest foreign market in May 2001, Great Britain, increased by 22 per cent. France decreased by 39 per cent, compared with May last year.

Higher capacity

Compared with May 2000, the capacity of the Norwegian hotel industry has increased in terms of beds and rooms.

Increased room prices

The average room rate in May 2001 was NOK 707, compared with NOK 689 in the corresponding month 2000. The lodging revenue increased from NOK 531 million in May 2000 to NOK 553 million in May 2001.
