Foreign guest nights decreased

Norwegian hotels recorded 1,97 million guest nights in August 2001, against 2,01 million in August last year. In terms of percentage, business decreased by two per cent. Compared with August 2000, the foreign market decreased by six per cent, and the domestic market increased by one per cent.

The largest foreign market in August 2001, Germany, decreased twelve per cent. USA decreased nine per cent. Great Britain increased twelve per cent, compared with August last year.

Higher capacity

Compared with August 2000, the capacity of the Norwegian hotel industry has increased in terms of beds and rooms.

Decreased room prices

The average room rate in August 2001 was NOK 665, compared with NOK 667 in corresponding month 2000. The lodging revenue decreased from NOK 791 million in August 2000 to NOK 777 million in August 2001.
