Norwegian hotels recorded 1.1 million guest nights in October 2001 and October 2000. Compared with October 2000, the foreign market decreased one per cent, while the domestic market was about unchanged.

The largest foreign market in October 2001, Sweden, decreased 13 per cent. Great Britain decreased one per cent, while Denmark increased 10 per cent, compared with October last year.

Higher capacity

Compared with October 2000, the capacity of the Norwegian hotel industry has increased in terms of beds and rooms.

Decreased room prices

The average room rate in October 2001 was NOK 699, compared with NOK 702 in the corresponding month 2000. The lodging revenue decreased from NOK 589 million in October 2000 to NOK 587 million in October 2001.

So far this year..

the traffic from the domestic market has increased by 2 per cent, while the foreign market has decreased by 3 per cent.
