Unchanged traffic in 2001

Norwegian hotels recorded 16.42 million guest nights in 2001, against 16.36 million in 2000. In terms of percentage, business was about unchanged. Compared with 2000, the domestic market increased by two per cent, and the foreign market decreased by three per cent.

All the major foreign markets in 2001 decreased compared with 2000, except Great Britain who increased 9 per cent.

Higher capacity

Compared with 2000, the capacity of the Norwegian hotel industry has increased in terms of the beds and rooms.

Increased room prices

The average room rate in 2001 was Norwegian kroner, NOK, 689, compared with NOK 682 in 2000. The lodging revenue increased from 7.161 billion NOK in 2000 to 7.271 billion NOK in 2001.

Unchanged traffic in December

Both the total business, and the foreign and domestic business, was about unchanged in December 2001 compared with December 2000.
