More foreign guest nights

Norwegian hotels recorded 1.09 million guest nights in November 2002, against 1.07 million in November 2001. In terms of percentage, business increased by 2.0 per cent. Compared with November 2001, the foreign market increased by 1.6 per cent, and the domestic market increased by 5.1 per cent.

Sweden and the United Kingdom were the two largest foreign markets in November 2002. The number of guest nights from Sweden decreased by 3 per cent, while the number of guest nights from the United Kingdom increased by 11 per cent.

Less guest nights in the period January to November

Norwegian hotels recorded 15.42 millions guest nights in the period January - November 2002. This is a decrease of 1.0 per cent compared with the same period in 2001. The number of Norwegian guest night decreased by 0.5 per cent, while the number of foreign guest nights decreased by 2.2 per cent. The three largest foreign markets, Germany, Denmark and Sweden, decreased by approximately 5 per cent, compared with the period January - November 2001.

Occupancy rates

Compared with November 2001, the occupancy rates for beds increased while the occupancy rate for rooms decreased.

Increased room prices

The average room rate in November 2002 was NOK 713, compared with NOK 704 in November 2001. The lodging revenue decreased from NOK 586 million in November 2001 to NOK 585 million in November 2002.
