Continued decline for hotels

Norwegian hotels recorded 1.35 million guest nights in March 2003 against 1.46 million in March last year. In terms of percentage, business decreased by 7 per cent. Compared with March 2002, the foreign market decreased by 9 per cent, and the domestic market decreased by 7 per cent.

The two largest foreign markets in March 2003, Denmark and Sweden both decreased. The largest foreign market, Denmark, decreased by 17 per cent, while the Swedish market decreased by 19 per cent. The number of guest nights from Germany increased by 18 per cent.

Increased number of business guest nights

The number of guest nights on occupational purposes increased by 14 per cent, while the guest nights on recreational purposes decreased by 23 per cent.

Occupancy rates

Compared with March 2002, the occupancy rates both for beds and rooms decreased.

Fewer guest nights in the 1st quarter

The number of guest nights both by Norwegians and foreigners decreased.

Increased room prices

The average room rate in March 2003 was NOK 725, compared with NOK 715 in the corresponding month 2002. The lodging revenue increased from NOK 607 million in March 2002 to NOK 628 million in March 2003.
