Continued decline in April

Norwegian hotels recorded 1.01 million guest nights in April 2003 against 1.07 million in April last year. In terms of percentage, business decreased by 5 per cent. Compared with April 2002, the foreign market decreased by 18 per cent, and the domestic market decreased by 2 per cent.

The largest foreign market in April 2003, Sweden, decreased by 32 per cent. Denmark decreased by 6 per cent, while the number of guest nights from the UK and Germany decreased by 4 and 21 per cent respectively.

Increased number of holiday motivated guest nights

The number of guest nights on holiday and recreational purposes increased by 32 per cent, while the guest nights on occupation and course and conference purposes decreased by 27 per cent.

Occupancy rates

Compared with April 2002, the occupancy rates both for beds and rooms decreased.

Fewer guest nights so far this year

The number of guest nights both by Norwegians and foreigners decreased.

Increased room prices

The average room rate in April was NOK 717, compared with NOK 714 in April last year. The lodging revenue decreased from NOK 543 million in April 2002 to NOK 464 million in April 2003.
