Decrease of guest nights in June
Norwegian hotels recorded 1.67 million guest nights in June 2003 against 1.79 million in June last year. In terms of percentage, business decreased by 7 per cent. Compared with June 2002, the domestic market decreased by 4 per cent, while the foreign market decreased by 10 per cent.
The two largest foreign markets in June 2003 Germany and France, decreased by 1 and 7 per cent respectively. Only the Dutch market had an increase, by 3 per cent.
Decreased number of recreational motivated guest nights
The number of guest nights on holiday and recreational purposes decreased by 78 000 guest nights compared with June last year.
Occupancy rates
Compared with June 2002, the occupancy rates both for beds and rooms decreased.
Increased room prices and decreased lodging revenue
The average room rate in June was NOK 703 compared with NOK 692 in June last year. The lodging revenue decreased from NOK 786 million in June 2002 to NOK 756 million in June 2003.
