Decrease in July for hotels
Norwegian hotels recorded 2.21 million guest nights in July 2003 against 2.34 million in July last year. In terms of percentage, business decreased by 6 per cent. Compared with July 2002, the domestic market decreased by 3 per cent, while the foreign market went down by 10 per cent.
Except for the Netherlands, all the largest foreign markets in July 2003 decreased. The number of Dutch guest nights increased by 10 per cent, while the largest foreign market, Germany, decreased by 4 per cent.
Decreased number of recreational motivated guest nights
The number of guest nights on holiday and recreational purposes decreased by 7 per cent compared with July last year.
Occupancy rates
Compared with July 2002, the occupancy rates both for beds and rooms decreased.
Increased room prices and decreased lodging revenue
The average room rate in July was NOK 637 compared with NOK 617 in July last year. The lodging revenue decreased from NOK 743 million in July 2002 to NOK 709 million in July 2003.
