Continued decrease for hotels

Norwegian hotels recorded 1.89 million guest nights in August 2003 against 1.92 million in August last year. In terms of percentage, business decreased by 2 per cent. Compared with August 2002, the domestic market decreased by 2 per cent, while the foreign market decreased by 1 per cent.

Except for the United Kingdom, all the larger foreign markets in August 2003 increased. The number of guest night from the United Kingdom decreased by 7 per cent, while the largest foreign market, Germany, increased by 10 per cent.

Nordic neighbours

Our neighbours in north failed to visit. The largest decrease had Denmark by 6,000 guest nights or 14 per cent, while Sweden decreased by 3 per cent and Finland and Iceland decreased by 24 and 18 per cent respectively.

Occupancy rates

Compared with August 2002, the occupancy rates both for beds and rooms decreased.

Increased room prices and decreased lodging revenue

The average room rate in August was NOK 674 compared with NOK 678 in August last year. The lodging revenue decreased from NOK 765 million in August 2002 to NOK 746 million in August 2003.

So far this year

After the first 8 month this year, business has decreased by 4 per cent. The domestic market has decreased by 2 per cent, while the foreign market decreased by 8 per cent.
