Slight decrease for Norwegian hotels

Norwegian hotels recorded 1.3 million guest nights in September 2003 - a decrease of 1 per cent compared with September 2002. The domestic market decreased by 2 per cent, while the foreign market decreased by 1 per cent.

Except for Germany, all the larger foreign markets in September 2003 decreased. The number of guest night from the largest foreign market - the United Kingdom - decreased by 5 per cent, while the second largest foreign market, Sweden, declined by 5 per cent.

Nordic neighbours

Our Nordic neighbours failed to come this month too. Denmark decreased the most by 3,000 guest nights or 14 per cent and Sweden declined by 5 per cent. Finland and Iceland decreased by 15 and 20 per cent respectively.

Occupancy rates

Compared with September 2002, the occupancy rates for beds were unchanged while occupancy rates for rooms decreased by 0,1 percentage point.

Decreased room prices and lodging revenue

The average room rate in September was NOK 703 compared with NOK 705 in September last year. The lodging revenue decreased from NOK 663 million in September 2002 to NOK 657 million in September 2003.

Decrease so far this year

After the first 9 month this year, business has decreased by 4 per cent. The domestic market has decreased by 2 per cent, while the foreign market decreased by 8 per cent.
