Increase for hotels in February

Norwegian hotels recorded 1.29 millions guest nights in February this year - an increase of 6 per cent compared with February last year. The domestic market increased by 4 per cent, and the foreign market rose by 12 per cent.

Even if the number of guest nights was 6 per cent higher than February last year, it is still 2.2 per cent lower than February 1999, which was the best February month ever.

The four largest markets increased

The largest foreign market, Denmark, increased by 6 per cent compared with February last year. Sweden and the United Kingdom, the second and the third largest foreign markets in February, increased by 11 and 26 per cent respectively, while the fourth largest foreign market, Germany, increased by 14 per cent.

Occupancy rates

Compared with February last year, the occupancy rate for rooms increased by 0.9 percentage points while the occupancy rate for beds increased by 1.3 percentage points.

Decreased room prices and increased lodging revenue

The average room rate in February was NOK 725 compared with NOK 727 in February last year. The lodging revenue increased from NOK 545 million February last year to NOK 573 million in February this year.

So far this year

After the first two months of 2004, there has been 2.27 millions guest nights - an increase of 5 per cent compared with the same period last year.
