Decline so far in 2001

In January and February 2001, Norwegian and foreign intermediaries of huts arranged a total of 232 000 overnight stays in private cabins in Norway. This is a decline of nearly 5.6 per cent compared with the same months in 2000, but is an increase of 1.6 per cent compared with January and February 1999.

Foreigners accounted for 80 per cent of the overnight stays. The number of foreign overnight stays fell 6.6 per cent, while business from the domestic market went down 1.5 per cent. The two dominant foreign markets, Germany and Denmark, accounted for 80 per cent of the foreign business and 65 per cent of all overnight stays in 2000. The number of German overnight stays fell by more than 20 per cent, while on the other hand overnight stays by Danes increased by 5.6 per cent compared with January and February 2000.

Down in January, up in February

There were 95 000 overnight stays in January, a decline of 15.5 per cent compared with January last year. Both domestic and foreign business went down. There were 137 000 overnight stays in February, which was an increase of 2.8 per cent from February last year. Both domestic and foreign traffic increased.
