Increase in capital costs
In domestic sea transport, capital costs increased by 2.2 per cent in the second quarter of 2014 compared to the same quarter of 2013. Total costs increased by 2.9 per cent in the same period.

At 84.5 in the second quarter of 2014, the sub-index for capital costs is also 2.9 per cent higher than that of the first quarter of 2014. This sub-index is based on the 3-month nominal NIBOR from Norges Bank (Norwegian money market rate). The average three-month nominal NIBOR was 1.77 per cent and 1.79 per cent in the 2nd quarter of 2013 and 2014 respectively.
Cost of crew went up by 2.4 per cent from the second quarter of 2013. Administrative costs increased by 2.1 per cent, fuel costs increased by 3.7 per cent, and repair and maintenance costs went up 3.4 per cent in the same period.
