Lower total costs for all types of vessels in domestic sea transport
The cost of fuel decreased by 9.6 per cent from the 2nd to the 3rd quarter of 2015. The cost of financing fell by 7.7 per cent. Total costs for operators of vessels in domestic sea transport went down by about 1.7 per cent.

The sub-index of fuel costs ended at 113.5 in the 3rd quarter of 2015. The sub-index had a year-on-year decrease of 25.9 per cent. The index for total costs, which covers all costs and all vessels in domestic sea transport, ended at 113.4, and is 1.7 per cent lower than in the 2nd quarter of the year.
Decrease in the total costs for all vessels
The sub-indices for all types of vessels decreased in the 3rd quarter of 2015 compared to the previous quarter. Other cargo ships experienced the relatively largest fall among the different types of vessels, decreasing by 2.4 per cent. The year-on-year cost for this type of vessel fell year-on-year by 5.6 per cent.
Significantly lower financing costs
Financing costs ended at 68.6 in the 3rd quarter of 2015. The sub-index fell by 7.7 per cent compared to the 2nd quarter of the year. On a year-on-year basis, the financing costs for operators of vessels in domestic sea transport have fallen sharply, by 16.3 per cent. The financing sub-index is based on the Norwegian Interbank Offered Rate, which reflects the cost of borrowing for Norwegian banks in the domestic market.
Quarterly decrease in the costs of repair and maintenance
The sub-index for repair and maintenance ended at 113.8 in the 3rd quarter of 2015. This represents a fall of 0.3 per cent compared to the 2nd quarter of the year, and a year-on-year rise of 3.1 per cent.
The sub-index for administrative costs ended at 125.2 in the 3rd quarter of 2015, which is a year-on-year rise of 1.2 per cent and a decrease of 0.1 per cent compared to the previous quarter.
